Preparation:
  • The room should be warm, without drafts, and work on a warm surface so the wax will cool more slowly. Place a towel, wooden board, or heating pad underneath if the countertop is cold.
  • Pour the wax into a container, place it in a double boiler or wax melter (avoiding steam contact with the wax), and melt until liquid.
  • Lay out the mat, clean it from dust, and coat it with vegetable oil (optional) if necessary.
  • Prepare all the tools in front of you.

Wax Preparation:
  • Add dye to the melted wax. The amount depends on the desired color. If you want a bright shade, use a well-pigmented dye, as adding excessive amounts can make the wax more brittle.
  • Mix the wax well to dissolve the dye.

Manufacturing Process:
a) Pistil:
  • Melt some wax and color it yellow
  • Pour wax into the mold, having placed a wick (about 27 cm) in it first
  • Let the wax harden, then remove the pistil from the mold
b) Stem:
  • Melt a new portion of wax and color it green
  • Spread wax on the mat using a warm spoon and let it cool; at this stage, wax should not be hot or brittle but should remain warm and pliable (approximately 40 degrees)
  • Cut a rectangle from wax that fits your wick size
  • Wrap the wick in wax, forming the stem and trying to ensure wax layers are tightly pressed together; stem thickness should be 8-9 mm
c) Petal:
  • Melt some new wax and color it white; for flexibility, you can add 10-15% soft microcrystalline wax
  • Spread some wax on the mat using a warm spoon and let it cool slightly
  • Cut out a petal using a cutter or by hand
  • Further technique depends on your preferences: you can create veins using a flat silicone veiner or the back of a knife, or skip veining altogether; petal shape can be formed using curved veiner or by hand
  • Wrap stem in petal, smooth edges with fingers and scalpel; if petal has cooled by this time, you can reheat it using a heat gun or hot spoon
d) Tinting:
  • Tint pistil using a mixture of yellow and orange liquid wax dyes; pistil can also be tinted before attaching petal
  • Tint the edge and bottom of the petal with a mixture of yellow and green dyes, tint the joint with pure green dye, and stretch it over the stem. You can also tint the inside of the petal with a mixture of yellow and green.
