To create the candle you will need:
bleached beeswax (≈80-100 g)
wax melter or water bath containers
silicone mat
maracas or any rounded object with a diameter of 6-6.5 cm
spoon
knife
kitchen thermometer
fat-soluble dye in white or any other color
ruler
waxed wick
Preparation:
The room should be warm, without a draft, work on a warm surface, so the wax will cool more slowly. If the countertop is cold, you can put a towel, a wooden board or a heated mat under it.
Pour the wax into a container and put it on a water bath or in a wax melter (without allowing the wax to get steam) melt the wax to a liquid state
Spread a mat, clean it from dust, if necessary, lubricate it with vegetable oil (optional).
Prepare all the tools in front of you
Preparation of wax:
To the melted wax add colorant. The amount depends on the desired color. If you want to achieve a bright shade, use a well-pigmented dye, as adding too much may make the wax more brittle.
Stir the wax well to melt the dye.
Making process:
(a) Making the middle
Spoon the wax onto the mat, forming round pancakes with a diameter of 5-5.5 cm. Quantity of 8 pieces. Wait for the wax to cool slightly.
Carefully remove the pancakes with a knife and fold each of them in two.
Place two of them on top of each other and twist around the thermometer.
Curl the rest one by one around the resulting center, folding the free edge of the petal outward. Each next petal should half cover the previous one, and the free edge should be elevated above the center, so that it is possible to round it.
If necessary, trim the bottom of the center with a knife, if the petals are not holding firmly, dip the bottom part in wax.
Pour on the mat the next batch of petals with a diameter of 5-5.5 cm. Quantity 4 pieces. Let the wax cool a little, then cut the resulting pancakes in half.
Glue the halves around the center on the same principle as the previous row of petals.
For the next row we need 4 petals with a diameter of 5-5.5 cm.
Without cutting them, glue them around the center in the same way as the previous petals, slightly above the center.
Periodically check that the wick hole is still in place, if it has disappeared, re-do it while the wax is warm.
b) Forming the middle petals
For the next row of petals, pour 6 more pancakes with a diameter of 5-5.5 cm onto the mat.
Shape them with a maracas, tightly placing each of the pancakes on it, pressing from the bottom, leaving the top edge flat. Use your hands to form the curve of the upper part of the petal.
Dip the petal in wax, apply it to the center so that the edge of the petal rose above it, try to put less pressure on the side, giving emphasis on the bottom of the flower. In this way, glue the remaining petals in a circle, bringing each next petal halfway over the previous one.
Glue the next row of petals with a diameter of 6-6.5 cm. The number of 6 pieces.
Shape them with a maracas like the previous ones, but this time we form a sharper edge of the petal.
Glue the petals in a circle to the center similarly to the previous row, but this time glue the petals, not towering above the center, but taking them slightly downward.
If necessary, after each row you can dip the design in wax for better gluing of the petals to each other.
c) Forming the outer petals
For the next petals, add more wax and a little white dye. This step is for those who want to make the outer petals lighter than the inner ones.
After the wax has melted and the dye has dissolved, form the last rows of petals with a diameter of 7-7.5 cm. The number of 12-16 pieces.
Give them shape with the help of maracas, then glue similarly to the previous ones, 6-7 pieces in a row. The last row try to glue to the very bottom and do it as neatly as possible to form a beautiful bottom of the candle.
d) Threading the wick
When the candle is ready, make a hole and insert the wick. Press it from the bottom against the still warm wax to prevent it from sticking off. Before lighting, remember to trim the wick to 0.5 cm.
