1) Lay the beeswax sheet on the work surface.
2) Place the wick along the edge of the sheet.
3) Roll the sheet up evenly.
Make the first turn as tight as possible. With each subsequent turn,
make sure the sheet rolls evenly without skewing.
4) Optional: add fragrance, essential oils, or herbs.
When there are a few turns of sheet left, you can add a little
essential oil and some herbs. Use oils sparingly (the amount depends
on the sheet size; the main thing is that nothing drips from the candle).
Herbs can catch fire—some makers intentionally use this for an incense-like effect, giving the candle an incense-like aroma. If you don’t want the herbs
to burn, place them in the last turns (as far from the wick as possible),
or skip them. Note that essential oils evaporate quickly, so the scent
won’t last long.
Safety note: test-burn on a heat-resistant surface; keep herbs away from the wick path; never leave a burning candle unattended.
5) Seal the edge.
When you finish rolling, press the seam lightly with your fingers so the warmth of your hand softens the edge, makes it less visible, and prevents it from lifting.
